"100 Days of Greatness": Trump raves about his tariff policy

"100 Days of Greatness": Trump raves about his tariff policy

After 100 days in office, US President Trump is crediting himself with the most successful start of any administration ever. He particularly highlights his tariffs. He wants to assuage concerns in the auto industry with easing measures. He calls poor polls "fake."

US President Donald Trump has predicted a bright future for the United States auto industry. This is due to his tariff and tax policies, the 78-year-old said this evening (local time) in a speech marking the first 100 days of his second term in office in the city of Warren, north of Detroit. The Republican had previously signed an executive order providing tariff relief for automakers. Thanks to his tariffs and the planned tax relief, companies from all over the world are coming to the United States and opening new factories, Trump continued. The tariff relief should also contribute to this.

Companies that produce in the US will be able to benefit from reduced surcharges on imported parts for the first two years. Automakers will also only pay one US tariff: either the 25 percent surcharge for foreign-built cars or a 25 percent tariff on steel or aluminum.

Trump hailed himself as having had a historic start as the 47th US President. He spoke of the "most successful first 100 days of any administration in the history" of the United States. He had reduced inflation, fought "illegal immigration" in an unprecedented manner, and cracked down on "woke" ideologies – such as men posing as women. Unfortunately, the courts repeatedly hampered his efforts, the President complained.

"Jobs Jobs Jobs"

Trump called the opposition Democrats "crazy" and "criminals." His supporters in Warren cheered the president and waved signs reading "Make America Great Again." Also hung in the hall were posters reading "100 Days of Greatness" and "Jobs Jobs Jobs."

"Nobody can accomplish anything that quickly in 100 days," said retired nurse Steve Camber. The 60-year-old praised Trump for his job. Lisa Reeves, 55, said Trump has a "heart for America" and the right morals. Nelly Nkouka, 40, said she appreciated Trump's "honesty" and outspoken manner. However, immigrants also deserve the American dream, said the woman, who came to the US from Congo in 2005.

Citizen resistance grows

Trump's tough stance against migrants, judges, civil servants, universities, and sexual minorities is meeting with resistance from parts of the population. Critics also accuse him of plunging the global economy into uncertainty with his erratic tariff and foreign policy and of offending NATO allies. Trump had promised a quick resolution to the Ukraine war, but this remains nowhere in sight.

US media recently published polls showing that Trump has only four out of ten US citizens behind him. His ratings on the economy and immigration are even worse. Trump again called this "fake" and claimed that at least 60 percent of citizens support him.
